"There's really nowhere to go with this review than the truth and some observations\n\nWe booked five nights, some of which were over $600 a night. \n\nWe had a queen executive room which was designed to be accessible, and consequently larger than normal \n\nTHIS room, in fact, was quite large for New York... It was located on the corner so there were plenty of windows everywhere \n\nIt even had a walk-in closet and a separate regular size closet\n\nLocation is wonderful of course, just next to Penn Station\n\nWe were greeted by long- time employee DRISS, who is a bell captain. He's great\n\nIAN check in after we waited over half an hour in a line because there were only three people in hotel with 1000 rooms at Christmas time\n\nIAN was very nice and professional\n\nBut here's a fable.\n\nWhen we walked into the hotel we were greeted by an abundance of festive Christmas decorations. Garland, wreaths, and a large Christmas tree\n\nBut what we noticed was how shabby they were, the ribbons and bows torn tattered and dirty\n\nThat sums up the whole experience and said more about the management than any review could ever say\n\nFrom a distance everything is shiny and bright in this art deco hotel. When you get closer it's just tattered and filthy\n\nFor goodness sake, if the hotel manager could not pay somebody $200 to replace the ribbons and bows, you can only imagine what the place looks like behind the scenes\n\nOr in our hallway, where are the filthy torn tattered carpet was held together with tape\n\nOr on the filthy furniture\n\nOr in our room, which as I mentioned above, was spacious... But had a dilapidated "queen" size bed that we suspect was actually a full\n\nWe stayed the first night, and reluctantly the second night, but when I saw the $600 charge for the third night I went ballistic. I looked around, and by now the hotel prices have gone down for many of the local hotels, because they needed to sell the empty rooms\n\nI went back to the front desk and determined that I could check out early without a penalty\n\nOnly at that time as I offered a newly renovated room... Which was clearly renovated six or seven years ago, but had a normal situation concerning furnishings, carpeting, and updated bathroom\n\nAlaska, that was one of those New York City rooms where you literally couldn't fit between the bottom of the bed and the wall or furniture\n\nThe desk clerk did say that he would "upgrade "us to the modernized room. I was baffled as to how the heck this was an upgrade. \n\nThey should never be a situation where they rented rooms in the condition of ours to begin with, and it will certainly was not advertised that there were newly renovated rooms and old rooms... Which is an advertisement I've seen in many hotels\n\nSo, ANYHOO, the management is well aware that some of the rooms are crappy crappy shabby and crappy, and yet they rent them at expensive full price\n\nSo... Turns out it's kind of just a tourist trap\n\nI ENDED UP SPEAKING TO IAN AGAIN, WHO PULLED MY BILL, AND THE NEXT DAY WE MOVED AROUND THE CORNER TO A NEWER HOTEL, WITH A GORGEOUS KING SIZE BED AND UPDATED BATHROOMS, AND A NORMAL BUNCH OF AMENITIES... THE NEW HOTEL IS LITERALLY FOUR MINUTES WALK FROM THE OTHER SO IT WAS REALLY EASY FOR US TO TRANSFER OUR LUGGAGE. THE NEW HOTEL ALLOWED US TO CHECK IN OUR BAGS AT 8 AM, AND OUR NEW ROOM WAS READY AT 11 O'CLOCK AFTER WE VISITED HUDSON YARDS, SO THEY LET US CHECK IN WITH NO CHARGE, NOR HAVE THEY CHARGED US TO STORE THE BAGS\n\n\nSO, THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS, THEY KNOW BUT THEY DON'T CARE. I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU DO SOME SEARCHING AND FIND A DIFFERENT HOTEL. DON'T BE MISLED BY THE storied HISTORY OF THIS OLD GAL... EVEN THE UPDATED ROOMS ARE SUPER TINY. WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY FINE IF YOU'RE PAYING ACCORDINGLY\n\nSo there you go, and if the manager reads this ... Please ask somebody from Housekeeping, a crafty person on your staff, or preferably some fashionable gay guy to revamp those shabby Christmas decorations... Because you can't erase a first impression\n\nIf you can't fix tiny things for a couple of hundred dollars, you certainly can't fix a hotel that needs tens of millions in renovation\n PS\n\nBecause this hotel has a very interesting history, there's a lot written about it... The Wikipedia page indicates that the room we were in was probably renovated about 25 years ago. The condition of the furniture and carpeting would indicate that that's a good guess\n\nWould have been ok at 1/2 the price (literally)"

"HOW DO YOU GIVE LESS THAN 1 STAR????\n\nI rarely write negative reviews, but after our stay at The Plaza Hotel Columbus Square from November 14-16, 2025, I feel obligated to share what happened. What we experienced was far beyond disappointing. It was completely unacceptable.\n\nBefore our trip, this property was advertised as part of the Marriott brand. Only upon arrival did we learn that it had been de-flagged by Marriott, with no prior notice or communication. Had we known this, we would never have booked here, and everything that followed made that painfully clear.\n\nIt took three separate room changes before we found a room that\n\n* was even moderately clean,\n\n* had a functioning HVAC system, and\n\n* included the pull-out bed we needed.\n\nTo make matters worse, the TV in our final room did not work at all, and we ultimately had to accept having no hot water, meaning cold showers for the entire stay.\n\nThe rooms are extremely outdated, neglected, and dirty. The phone handset was covered in some kind of grease or lubricant that took major effort to wash off my hands. Several electrical outlets didn't work, leaving us scrambling to charge basic devices. Bathroom supplies--tissues, toilet paper, clean towels--were barely stocked.\n\nThe entire property feels abandoned and unsafe. The décor looks unchanged since the 1980s--old, worn-down furniture, no flowers, no updated photos, nothing that matched the images on their website. The atmosphere was so vacant and eerie that it genuinely felt like walking into The Shining.\n\nStaff interactions made the situation worse. The morning front desk agent acted irritated that we complained about legitimate issues, while the evening agent was apologetic and clearly embarrassed. She even told us it was her last night working in "this place," which said a lot about the conditions.\n\nThe restaurant area was empty. When I came down for coffee, the hostess was practically asleep at her stand. The bar looked like it hadn't been restocked in months. The bartender openly commented that the new owner was "super cheap," and based on our experience, that was not an exaggeration. The breakfast was a buffet style set up. With no customers anywhere to be found, and based on all the other issues in the hotel, there was no way to know how old the food was. Hours or Days ??\n\nThere are four elevators, yet only one was operating. The other three were locked at lobby level for unknown reasons. Riding the single functioning elevator felt unsafe and unnerving.\n\nIf you read this and still stay at this hotel, you will have no one to blame but yourself. This property should not be operating in its current condition. Our stay was unacceptable on every level, and I strongly recommend choosing any other hotel."

"We had a very good experience here. I saw all the negative reviews on Yelp but I have no complaints.\n\nThe front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The lobby, which includes a separate dining room and a fireplace/lounge area, was very clean and attractive.\n\nOur room was good-sized. The view sucked but I forgot to ask for a whitewater ocean view. The television was as large as a movie screen. The only negative was the sliding barn door for the bathroom. It came off the rails once (but was promptly repaired by the hotel) but why oh why do hotels use a sliding door for the bathroom? Maybe there is a safety concern with real bathroom doors with locks but no one wants these silly sliders.\n\nThe bed was comfy and there was also a couch and sitting area.\n\nThe downtown location of the hotel is great. It is about a five minute walk to the Capitol and there are multiple coffee houses within easy walking distance. The arena district is just over a 10 minute walk away, too.\n\nDuring our stay, this hotel was also slightly and surprisingly cheaper than the nearby Drury, which isn't quite as nice but does offer perks like their "Kickback" happy hour and popcorn machine, etc. I like the Drury but I gave up the extra calories for a slightly lower price and higher quality rooms.\n\nI would gladly stay here again."

"Worst hospitality I have experienced at a Hilton chain! During my stay a person entered my room and woke me up, as I jumped out of bed yelling and chasing this person out of my room I called the front desk. The manager gave zero sympathy and or help to me. They tried to make them booking my room to another person somehow my fault! I will never return!! The restaurant is absolutely trash too!! Parking lot had several cars windows broken and items taken too!! Stay away!!"
