According to a report from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), the race between Bayern Munich and Manchester City for Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz is “absolutely open.”

Entering a rebuild for the 2025–26 season, Manchester City are reportedly looking to hijack Bayern Munich’s deal for a $150 million star. Manchester City are preparing for a major rebuild in the upcoming summer transfer window following a disappointing 2024–25 campaign that saw the team fall short of its season goals.

Take Florian Wirtz, for example. The FIFA rule changes mean City could theoretically sign Wirtz, register him before the tournament, and use the games in the USA to blood their new signing and give him valuable training time under Pep Guardiola. If he is going to sign, he would be a huge asset to the Club World Cup bid.
