Air India flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 carrying 242 people, crashed after taking off from Ahmedabad on its way to London.

The London-bound plane had barely left the runway at Ahmedabad airport before it was careening back to earth. In a video, the aircraft is seen slowly sinking behind residential buildings, before a huge fireball blasts upward.

Rescuers searched for missing people and aircraft debris in charred buildings after more than 240 people were killed in an Air India plane crash.
