Trump's former defense attorney Emil Bove faces opposition from former judges and Democrats as his nomination for the Third Circuit Court of Appeals faces first test.

Bove's candidacy was sent to the U.S. Senate for a confirmation vote despite significant opposition from former judges and prosecutors.

More than 900 former Justice Department employees sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday urging lawmakers to vote down the nomination of Emil Bove, the controversial top DOJ official who formerly served as President Donald Trump's defense attorney, to a seat on the powerful Third Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.

Some of these evasions are simply odd. Bove, who himself worked on January 6 prosecutions while working in the US Attorney’s office in Manhattan—an effort he has worked to downplay—told Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) that he wasn’t in Washington on January 6. But Bove also told Durbin, “I do not recall where I was on January 6, 2021.”

Emil Bove declined to rule out the possibility of a third Trump term and did not denounce the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol in a questionnaire submitted to a Senate panel.
