Starbucks shares climbed in extended trading Tuesday, as CEO Brian Niccol said the company is "ahead of schedule" on its turnaround effort.
Niccol also has previous experience taking over a founder-led brand and making it his own. When he joined Chipotle in 2018, he took the reins from founder Steve Ells, who had led the chain since 1993.
Niccol will be paid a base salary of $1.6 million annually, with the opportunity to earn up to $7.2 million more in cash. He’ll also be eligible for annual equity awards worth up to $23 million.
