Three new wildfires have started in southern California since Monday as dry conditions and destructive winds continued to create a high fire risk in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. At least 24 people have been killed in the disaster and dozens more are missing.

The program guaranteeing fire insurance coverage for homeowners turned down by traditional companies, known as the California FAIR Plan​, could run out of money following the devastating destruction caused by the Palisades and Eaton fires.

Although the cause of each blaze has yet to be determined, they all burned in or near foothill communities amid gusty winds and dry air and vegetation.

House Republicans are beginning early discussions about whether aid to California should be conditioned on changing liberal policies they blame for helping the disaster.

A number of Republicans are calling for conditions to any federal aid that goes to California as the state struggles with catastrophic wildfires.

California and other Democratic-controlled states would need to atone for “bad behavior,” if they wanted federal assistance, one lawmaker said.
