Faith Kipyegon on Thursday fell short in her quest to become the first woman in history to run a four-minute mile, clocking a time of 4:06.42 at a Nike-organized event in Paris.

The 31-year-old Kipyegon is the owner of three Olympic gold medals and the women's world record time in the mile.

Kipyeon ran four laps of the Stade Charléty track in Paris in 4 minutes, 6.42 seconds. The audacious attempt came with the help of sweeping support from Nike, which worked with Kipyegon on every aspect of the run, including designing her a bespoke running suit and track spikes.
