A rarely seen daytime fireball that may have been dropped by a meteor was spotted across the Southeast on Thursday — creating a sonic boom that blared through the region.

A possible meteorite was spotted shooting through the sky in the southeast U.S. on Thursday. The National Weather Service office in Charleston said there were "many reports of a fireball" across the region just before noon.

Videos of a bright meteor is doing rounds on social media after it was spotted streaking over US states of Georgia and South Carolina on Thursday. American Meteor Society reportedly said that the fireball spotting was reported at 12:25 pm (local time) at an altitude of about 77 km, moving at a speed of over 48,000 km per hour.
