India and Pakistan on Saturday reached an understanding to stop all military actions on land, in the air and at the sea, in a U.S.-brokered ceasefire.

The ceasefire has halted what some analysts say was the most serious fighting between the two countries since a 1971 war. But India's recent suspension of a key water-sharing treaty remains in place.

Explosions were reported in the area of Kashmir controlled by India after the ceasefire took effect. President Donald Trump said that the agreement was the result of U.S.-mediated talks. Pakistani and Indian leaders did not cite U.
