Expect another smoggy day in metro Detroit. The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) has declared its eighth Air Quality Advisory of the season for Tuesday, July 15, citing elevated levels of ozone. Tuesday's Air Quality Index (AQI) is orange, which is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy issued an Air Quality Advisory for five West Michigan counties through Saturday.
EDT the National Weather Service reported an air quality alert in effect until Thursday at 1:30 a.m. EDT for Cass and Berrien counties.
On July 15, rain and thunderstorms are expected in southern Michigan and in the Upper Peninsula. Then, more rain and thunderstorms are forecast statewide on July 16. Widespread haze is included in the forecast for northern Michigan as the Canadian wildfire smoke moves over Michigan.
