The baseball world lost a legend on Monday, as longtime Chicago Cubs second basemen and Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg passed away at the age of 65. Sandberg, the 1984 National League MVP, a 10-time All-Star and a nine-time Gold Glover, was known as much for his elite hitting and infield defense as he was for his quiet leadership and pleasantness.

Ryne Sandberg, a Hall of Fame second baseman who became one of baseball’s best all-around players while starring for the Chicago Cubs, has died.

Sandberg played 16 MLB seasons for the Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs and was a 10-time All-Star, one-time MVP, nine-time Gold Glover and seven-time Silver Slugger.

"Jed and his baseball operations staff have built a healthy player development organization and put an exciting, playoff contending team on the field," he said.

Milwaukee is 63-43 overall and 35-19 in home games.
