The NCAA announced hefty fines and suspensions for the University of Michigan football program as a result of its sign-stealing investigation.

Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was hit with a two-year show-cause order and three-game suspension as punishment for the program’s sign-stealing saga. In a list of penalties released on Friday, the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions agreed to accept Michigan’s offer for a two-game ban during the 2025 season.

Harbaugh, who left Michigan to become head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers after leading the Wolverines to the 2023 national championship, is largely insulated from the immediate impact of the NCAA's ruling. Yet the 10-year show-cause would remain a major barrier should he attempt a return to college football .
