According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, which began publishing full moon names in the 1930s, some Native American tribes referred to June's full moon as the "strawberry moon" to mark the short but sweet strawberry harvest season.

Peak illumination of the Strawberry Moon will arrive in Washington at 3:43 a.m. Eastern time on Wednesday. But it will be close enough to full on Tuesday evening that you won’t be able to tell the difference if observing with the naked eye.

A group of phenomena will make June’s full moon, known as the “Strawberry Moon,” live up to its name while also providing a unique spectacle.
