OREM, Utah (AP) — A 22-year-old Utah man who was arrested and booked on murder charges in the assassination of Charlie Kirk held deep disdain for the conservative activist’s provocative viewpoints and indicated to a family member that he was responsible for the shooting, authorities said Friday.

Kirk was a close ally of President Donald Trump and the founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative nonprofit organization that focuses on high schools and colleges. He spoke at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last year.

President Donald Trump announced Friday on “FOX & Friends” that an arrest was made in the manhunt for Charlie Kirk’s assassin. “I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody” Trump said.
