The Sixers and Comcast Spectacor said they'd pursue a bid after their deal to build an arena in the sports complex. It's unclear when a team would launch if the city were awarded one.

With plans for a new South Philadelphia arena set, Sixers ownership Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment took another step toward bringing the WNBA to Philly.

Tilman Fertitta, the owner of the Houston Rockets, has also submitted a bid to the WNBA for an expansion team, a spokesperson for the Rockets confirmed to The Athletic. The prospective team would play its games at the Toyota Center, where the Rockets play.
