Ohio Valley residents can expect a weather shift this weekend with precipitation and potential freezing rain as forecasted by the NWS.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of northern Ohio starting Wednesday night through Thursday morning. Freezing rain is expected across the region with some accumulation of ice expected overnight until temperatures rise above freezing on Thursday morning.

Some bits of patchy sleet & light freezing rain will begin to make it into far southwestern areas after 7 a.m. Greatest coverage & intensity of precipitation overall is 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. After some morning flakes, Sunday is mostly cloudy. A localized light dustings of snow are possible Saturday night-Sunday morning.

Punxsutawney Phil made his annual prediction in Pennsylvania, and the groundhog saw a shadow, meaning the United States is set for six more weeks of winter.

As for the current storm, 1 to 2 inches of snow is forecast to fall in many areas of North Jersey before temperatures start warming up and the snow changes to a mix of sleet and freezing rain prior to sunrise Thursday. As temperatures continue to get warmer, forecasters say, the icy mix will change to plain rain.

A weekend winter storm will bring biting temperatures and dump several inches of snow on areas from the Midwest to Northeast.

Another round of winter storms is set to move into the area this weekend. The National Weather Service’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies on Friday. Highs will top out in the mid 20s with light breezes calming later tonight as lows dip to around 20.
