Friday is July 4th, when America celebrates its Independence Day. Here's a look at what's open and what's closed in Massachusetts. The Fourth of July is a state and federal holiday. That means the post office, courts, schools, government offices, town halls and public libraries are closed.

The New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, and bond markets will close early the day before Independence Day (Thursday, July 3, 2025), ending for the day at 1 p.m., and will be closed on the Fourth of July. Those markets are typically open Monday through Friday, aside from select holidays.

Over 20 beaches in Massachusetts are closed on July 4 across the state, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Interactive Beach Water Quality Dashboard. A total of 22 beaches are closed in towns such as Ashby, Beverly, Dartmouth and Salem.
