As things stand, Rasmus Hojlund, who has enjoyed a solid pre-season so far, is the leading candidate to spearhead United's attack for the season opener. However, the club hope to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko to become the new face of their forward line.

Newcastle have tabled an offer worth £69.8million including add-ons and United are said to be ready to match that bid after fresh talks with Leipzig over the weekend. Ruben Amorim has made Sesko his top transfer target and Sky Germany say United are now planning to lodge an official bid for him.

Ruben Amorim said that Bryan Mbeumo fared well on debut as Manchester United drew 2-2 with Everton. The Cameroon international made his bow in a United shirt after his £65million move from Brentford last month.
