As President Donald Trump was preparing to celebrate his 79th birthday Saturday in Washington with a military parade honoring the U.S. Army’s 250th service anniversary, Vietnam veteran Herbert Smith stuck close to home.

The rally at Daley Plaza started at noon with a moment of silence for the shootings in Minnesota before moving into the streets of downtown Chicago.

South Jersey residents, such as Jessica Herrera of Cherry Hill, took to the streets of Philadelphia to sound off against the Trump administration.

The Houston demonstration is one of several planned in the region throughout the day and is expected to draw thousands of protesters.

Meanwhile, "No Kings" protests were scheduled in all 50 states to counter Trump's celebration, in cities like New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Boise.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets across Southern California on Saturday to voice their concerns over ongoing immigration raids and oppose the policies of President Trump, who they depicted as an aspiring monarch.

Despite the sweltering heat, hundreds — likely thousands — of people came out to express their disapproval of the Trump administration. And while protesters were loud and passionate, it did remain peaceful.

The parade was the spectacle event Trump had long wanted. It also helped sparked the largest mass opposition to him since his inauguration 145 days earlier.
