The next steps in California Democrats’ plan to counter Texas Republicans’ redistricting push
California is stepping into a national redistricting battle after President Donald Trump urged Texas Republicans to redraw maps to maintain their U.S. House majority.
Texas' $51 billion property tax cut could save homeowners $500 a year-if voters approve it in November. But redistricting debate may drown it out.
If those conditions are met, the Texas House Democratic Caucus said Democratic lawmakers will return to the Texas House.
The event was part of a national day of action, "Fight the Trump Takover," in protest of the redrawing of congressional maps in Texas. Protestors gathered on the Union and Eastmoreland overpasses and held signs and banners with statements such as "Resist" and "Stop Trump Save Democracy."
For now, all of Sutter County, along with most of Yuba County's population, falls within Republican Rep. Doug LaMalfa's district. The rest of Yuba County lies within Rep. Kevin Kiley's district. In November, each Republican decidedly won his seat in Congress, both of which are among the five seats reportedly under scrutiny for redistricting.
California Democrats released proposed congressional redistricting maps as their fight with Trump and Texas escalates.
