UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall could finally get his wish of a title unification bout with undisputed champ Jon Jones this summer.
Following UFC 313, where Magomed Ankalaev defeated Alex Pereira for the light heavyweight title, Aspinall addressed his future in a video blog posted to his YouTube channel. The interim champion revealed that a deal is essentially in place for him to face Jones in a heavyweight title unification bout.
Aspinall won the interim belt in late 2023, after regular-title holder Jones suffered an injury that ruled him out for a year. In Jones’s absence, Aspinall even defended the interim gold – an unusual move in the UFC – and retained it, before Jones returned and defended his own belt.
