Faith Kipyegon on Thursday fell short in her quest to become the first woman in history to run a four-minute mile, clocking a time of 4:06.42 at a Nike-organized event in Paris.

Kipyeon ran four laps of the Stade Charléty track in Paris in 4 minutes, 6.42 seconds. The audacious attempt came with the help of sweeping support from Nike, which worked with Kipyegon on every aspect of the run, including designing her a bespoke running suit and track spikes. The company dubbed the attempt Breaking4.

The 31-year-old Kipyegon is the owner of three Olympic gold medals and the women's world record time in the mile.
