Iran hopes that US President Donald Trump will agree to a new nuclear deal, Vice President for Strategic Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Wednesday at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss resort of Davos.

Iran's Vice-President Mohammad Javad Zarif urged President Trump to be rational in dealings with Iran, as Tehran reiterated it did not pursue nuclear weapons. This follows the U.S.'s withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal and increased sanctions.

Iran needs to reach an understanding over its atomic activity with the administration of Donald Trump in order to avoid being dragged into another military conflict in the Middle East, according to the world’s top nuclear regulator.
