The issue of self-defense was a central issue of the trial of Raul Valle, but played no part in deliberations in the case, according to the foreman of the jury that acquitted the 20-year-old of murder Wednesday in the 2022 killing of Fairfield Prep Student James McGrath.

The judge said she informally met with the defense and prosecution Tuesday, and decided to instruct the jury to continue deliberations.
