The hospital, located at 2650 N. Ridge Avenue in Evanston, was placed on lockdown as of 9 p.m. Thursday and its emergency room was closed to new patients, according to a hospital spokesperson.

The hospital shared a statement on Thursday, saying, "A shooting occurred in the emergency room at Evanston Hospital this evening. The individual was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

The Evanston Fire Department arrived at the scene with the man at 7:45 p.m. While inside a room during the intake process at the ER, the man became agitated toward hospital personnel, Sophier said.
