The New Orleans Saints did not get the result they hoped for in their first preseason game of the Kellen Moore era. That bring said, there were some notable takeaways from their match against the Los Angeles Chargers.

New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Tyler Shough got his first taste of NFL action on Sunday, and it was a mixed-but-promising performance.

In May, Saints coach Kellen Moore made a prediction regarding the team's three-way quarterback competition. "One of these guys will rise," Moore said. During the preseason opener, none of the trio of candidates took a firm hold on the job.

New Orleans lost a fumble, committed a critical defensive penalty and threw an interception in the first three quarters, leading to 17 points for the opportunistic Chargers in their second preseason game. And a run defense that the Saints desperately want to shore up allowed 148 yards and two touchdowns on 4.4 yards per carry.
